Coronavirus Lawsuit Against ICE: Complaint & Declarations

Coronavirus, Immigrant Rights, Racial Justice

On March 27, 2020, Lawyers for Civil Rights and Yale Law School’s Worker and Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic filed an emergency class action in federal court against ICE and the Bristol County Sheriff to secure the humanitarian release of immigrants because they are at risk of COVID-19 infection, illness, and death. We believe this may be the first class action of its kind in the country.

We are making the information we filed with the federal court available here to raise public awareness of the life-threatening conditions immigrants are enduring.

Read the latest from our medical and public health experts, and read the harrowing stories of survival in Bristol County.

Supplemental information, available here, was filed with the federal court on Sunday, March 29.

Additional briefing was filed on Thursday, April 2 at 9 AM.

UPDATE: In response to the government’s doodles filed to justify life-threatening immigration detention at Bristol County, we filed a brief explaining how Bristol County remains unsafe, including renderings illustrating the life-threatening conditions.
